bag of frozen broccoli florets- you can use pieces if you like them as
they are sometimes cheaper.
rice- cook it before mixing. I use 5 cups uncooked with 11 cups of water
but I’m feeding 2 men, 5 boys, 3 girls and 1 college student.
cream of chicken soup- I don’t add milk or water to it.
shredded cheddar – amount depends on how cheesy you like it
boneless skinless chicken breasts – cook these in the microwave in a glass
dish and cut into cubes. Save the broth, too.
salt and pepper to taste, before or after- it doesn’t matter.

Mix it all together in a great big bowl and pour into a casserole dish. If
you made too much, you can freeze some in a ziploc bag.

Cook until the cheese it melted and the casserole is hot all the way
through. Eat and enjoy.

Because I am broke, and have nothing to do.
I thought I’d write a song for you.
It may be a little boring, but hey. Better than nothing.
Just wanted to say I love you more than dinosaurs and babe,
thats a lot of love.
If I have just one cookie left, I’d give it to you.
Now thats real love I’m telling you.
So, I’ll just skip to the chorus,

Oh happy mother’s day, you’re pretty cool.
Wish I had money, it’d be easier.
But I figured a song would be cheesier.
So, Happy mother’s day. I appreciate you,
Though sometimes it doesnt seem so, I love you.

So, I’d pause a movie to say hi to you,
I’d skip school too if you wanted me to.
I’d wrestle a bear, no not a real one. Thats just crazy,
I’ll leave that to dad.
If somebody hurt you, I’d show em real pain,
even if its just a splinter. Its the same.
Id burn all my artwork to keep you warm,
I’d catch a bolt of lightening in a giant storm.
Just so you would see, I sincerely love you, mommy.

Oh happy mother’s day, you’re pretty cool.
Wish I had money, it’d be easier.
But I figured a song would be cheesier.
So, Happy mother’s day. I appreciate you,
Though sometimes it doesnt seem so, I love you.

So, when the time comes when I have to leave home,
Just remember I will return,
except with mini me’s and I’ll reep what I sow.
So mom, I love you. More than Gold, muffins dinosaurs,
cheese, pie, footie pajama’s, MLIA, facebook, art,
Music, skateboards, youtube, motor bikes, candy, my cell phone,
my laptop, my dog, my room, Ninja’s, penguins, jello,
movies, and just about anything else.

So Happy mother’s day. I love ya

Vern Breland grew up in West Sterlington. He attended A. L. Smith and graduated from Sterlington High School in 1980. Vern received his degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2006 with a major in History and Spanish.

When I asked Vern if he always wanted to be Mayor of the Town of Sterlington, he picked up and rattled a jar on the front of his desk. “Those are my hips,” he said. Mayor Breland explained that he’d worked for the Monroe Police Department but had hip surgery and had to find something else to do. When Cliff Bullock told Vern that he did not intend to run again for the position of mayor in Sterlington, Vern decided to run himself.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Sterlington, I asked Vern. A great big smile broke out on his face. “Be mayor,” he said. Vern told me that he enjoyed everything about the Town of Sterlington and I could tell he meant it.

Favorite Sports Team: The Saints
Favorite Nascar Driver: Jeff Gordon

Mayor Breland also let me know about the following upcoming events in the Town of Sterlington:

Delta Project, March 5-6, new roof for 401 Frances
DOW Chemical and DEQ Haz Mat Collection, get rid of old batteries, cleaning products
Annual Trash Clean-Up Day, March 27
